In Ayurveda, Lime is considered a cleanser for the body, digestive stimulant and the peel is applied for fevers. Lime stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes and cleanses the body of toxins. It is considered a natural immune system booster, believed to help ward off infections.
Lime trees grow in warm, moist soil and bear fruit all year round. In dry form, Lime powder contains vitamin C, calcium, dietary fibre, carotenoids and antioxidant-rich polyphenols such as Limonene. Scientific studies have shown that Lime polyphenols may have immune enhancing as well as antipathogenic effects. Foods high in vitamin C, like Limes, may help prevent iron deficiency anaemia by improving the absorption of iron from plant-based foods.
